CSA 2018: Week 3

Happy Summer Solstice! (almost) We are ready for summer and all of the fun and yumminess that it brings! The cucumbers and tomatoes are trellised and setting fruit like crazy. Now all we have to  do is wait! All of our summer crops are in the ground and we're already planting some long season fall crops like cauliflower and storage cabbage. With the beginning of summer, we're starting to have a lot more variety at farmers market and in our CSA which feels great!

Before we get to the veggie-filled fun part of our newsletter, we have a couple of housekeeping items to address.

  1. The week of July 4th, CSA distribution will be on Tuesday July 3rd. Same time. Same place. (4-6 pm, the farm or Valley Medical).
  2. We are taking a week off from the CSA on Wednesday July 18. To make up for this share, we will add a week to the end of the season. Mid-July is one of the skinniest time of year on the farm produce-wise since we are kinda in between spring and summer crops. We'd way rather get you another awesome, heavy fall share than overload you with just zucchini. ;)

This week is a particularly special and SWEET share! You can get your sweet tooth going with strawberries, haukeri turnips, and snap peas, then snack on radishes, salad mix, some super colorful Gypsy broccoli, and tons of garlic scapes.

I know this broccoli looks super funky but it tastes super yummy too! Gyspy is a new variety that we tried this year and the florets turned out a lot more colorful than we expected! But that's what CSA is all about! You get to try the fun stuff! You can use this Gypsy broccoli just like you would regular broccoli or cauliflower. The stems are especially sweet so don't toss 'em. I love to peel them and eat them raw but you could stir fry them up too!

Enjoy the beautiful summer weather this week and have fun with your veggies! We've included a couple more garlic scape recipes below, so check 'em out!
